Ernest Angley: The sad shadow of an old miracle man
The sign heralding Ohio miracle worker Ernest Angley's visit to Lesotho is enough to make you wince. Next to Angley's pudgy face, it promises that the deaf will hear, the lame will walk, and "AIDS And Other Death Diseases" will be healed. In a country with an HIV rate of 25%, stigma and misinformation are still major barriers to prevention campaigns, and a startling number of people live in fear of discovering that they are HIV-positive. Education campaigns are our best tool, and the last thing we need is an American preacher coming to town dispensing miracle cures.
Feeling a little bit dirty but driven by morbid curiosity, three friends and I found our way to the Sunday night show at the Pitso Grounds in Maseru. They were still setting up when we arrived, and it looked to be quite the event. Public outdoor shows are not common in Lesotho - famous musicians tend to choose private clubs with stiff entry fees to cover their expenses. Angley's team was setting up spotlights, towers of scaffolding, and quite possibly the biggest sound system that has ever been used in Lesotho.
The grounds were predictably busy. The Basotho are a religious and superstitious people, and they live in a troubled time, with the future of their nation threatened by the HIV epidemic. As elsewhere in Africa, the colonial overhang has left an overly positive impression of white expatriates. So when a white preacher comes with a promise to cure HIV, it is going to draw a crowd.
Ernest Angley has been working as a miracle man for well over forty years, which raised my expectations for an impressive and well-oiled performance. The David Copperfield of faith healers. I was disappointed to see that miracle workers too are affected by age (wikipedia puts him at 86) - they become slow and rambling, old men remembering another time, slightly embarrassing and uncomfortable to be around.
The outfit was the first hint that Ernest Angley was still living in the heady world of 1970s televangelism, the white suit, azure shirt, the sparkling tie. The dark toupee and the gold, shining bible were all intimidating, but most striking of all was the face, the bulbous jowls and smooth, synthetic sheen. "Is it plastic surgery?" I wondered. "Is it a mask??" "Its Dick Cheney under there," G whispered ominously.
86 years can't stop him
Angley's sidekicks had brought their sparkling suits and mustaches with them from the seventies, and sang melodious tunes to the canned music that floated through the sound system. Religious music is big in Lesotho, and several locals asked me where they could get a recording, assuming from my caucasian coloration that I must be with the masked man. Each time someone talked to me, a suited man built like an ex-marine would quickly arrive and angrily tell the questioner that I was NOT with them. There must have been at least a dozen of Angley's thugs stalking the crowd. In any case, I was happy for the clarification. As the singing went on, the more gentler of Angley's aides scanned the crowd for visibly disabled people and escorted them to reserved seats in front of the stage.
Maseru dance party
The occasional songs in Zulu or Sesotho (usually consisting of only a few repeated words) made the crowd go wild. That was the fun part of the performance - Lesotho does not see very many outdoor dance parties. After the songs, they gave the microphone to Angley, and the show started to go weird. After weird came depressing, and after depressing came boring, and after boring came being escorted to the door by four mustached thugs.
I don't think he even introduced himself. They passed him the microphone, and he stalked the stage, shouting into his microphone, "The blood! The blood! The blood! The blood!" He was followed step for step, motion for motion, by his Basotho translator, shouting "Mali! Mali! Mali! Mali!" 10,000 people, shouting for blood.
This was followed by a long, strange speech, which was as long-winded as it was directionless. I expected that after 40 years of fine-tuning, Angley's speech would be perfect: crafted, refined, designed to whip the crowd into a religious frenzy that made people levitate and smash their glasses, throw their crutches into the air.
If you yodel, I'm leaving
Maybe from the Ernest Angley of the 50s, but not this guy. He talked for a good ten minutes about yodelling, and how he didn't care for the sound. I'm not making this up. How one day he had experimented with his voice, and discovered that yes, he could make that sound, but why would he want to? And maybe we liked to make yodelling sounds in our home churches, in which case Angley would not judge us, but he would prefer if we didn't do it at his crusade.
From yodelling, into a rambling autobiographical sketch which included a lot of conversations with God, and a lot of talents passed down, including speaking, healing, the aw-shucks Ohio accent, and presumably the Amazing Plastic Face.
After the rambling came the offering. He sped through how you don't have to give money to receive a miracle, but took his time at the fun part. "Who wants to be blessed tonight? Who's going to give 500 rand? Put your hands up, who wants to be blessed tonight? There are people here who can give 500 rand!" It was all worded so nobody reviewing a transcript could accuse Angley of associating offered gifts with miracles, but the implication was clear. No hands went up. We were thrilled. I overheard an American missionary advising the people around him, "Don't give money. Give to your local church instead."
Beneath the dejected auctioneer, the price of a miracle slowly came down: "There are people here who can give 100 rand, who wants to be blessed with a miracle tonight?" No hands. "There are a lot of people who can give 10 rand. Who's going to give ten rand tonight? Who wants to be blessed tonight? Who's going to give ten rand." One or two hands. He went down to five rand. He went down to two rand (about 25 US cents). Finally, a few hands went up. But to our disappointment, when the rainbow bags went around, it looked like almost everyone threw in a coin or two. Just in case it might make a difference.
All proceeds will be spent on 747 jet fuel
Finally, getting to the business of the miracles, one of the aides asked the deaf and mute people to stand in parallel lines at the back of the fairgrounds. D went and stood in line, and spoke with a young, made-up woman of Angley's. "I can't hear my daughter's voice," he said. "I can hear everything, but I can't hear my daughter's voice, ever since I had an affair I can't hear her voice." Taking him aside to talk about the thick presence of witchcraft in Lesotho, she suggested that he was in all likelihood possessed by a demon.
In line for a miracle
In the meantime, Angley began healing people in the audience. As with everything else about the miracle crusade, it was an underwhelming experience.
"I'm not going to point out anyone with AIDS, because I don't want to embarrass them. But you know who you are. You are a man, you are 42 years old, you have had AIDS for 3 years. Your middle name is Andrew. When you last went to your doctor, you had lost 59 pounds. You are now healed of AIDS."
The applause was polite but unconvincing. What a weak effort! Andrew?! The least he could have done was learned a couple of Basotho names before the show.
"You are 73 years old. Your daughter has died of AIDS. You have been caring for your granddaughter, who also has AIDS, and you got AIDS from your granddaughter. You would give your life to help her. You are now healed of AIDS."
The physician standing next to me grumbled. "What a great message to reinforce. That you can get HIV by caring for someone with HIV." The physician is right of course - there is no documented case of HIV transmission to a caregiver, but now maybe some people will go home, afraid to care for relatives with HIV.
A solemn woman was standing next to us, holding a baby whose face twitched in an irregular spasm. On his small head were lesions that are common in HIV-positive children, and extremely rare otherwise. With the translating help of another man, the physician gave the woman directions to the clinic where he works. It was a difficult translation, but she seemed to get the message. "Bring your child there tomorrow," he said. "We can help your child. It is free."
Too late we realized that we should not have come for entertainment. We should have prepared flyers with directions to free HIV clinics, and passed them out to everyone, especially to people with evidently HIV positive children. Next year.
Angley moved on to the one-on-one stage of the show, where he healed people who have no sense of smell. It was a strange shift, from AIDS to anosmia, but to judge from the line, this is apparently not such a common condition in Lesotho. (In my office where the toilets have been backed up for weeks, it could even be considered an asset.) Maybe at 80-something, Angley's tired healing powers need to start with some easy miracles to get warmed up.
The candidates were brought to him by the ex-marines, who by this time had almost all migrated to the stage. Presumably they were necessary to quickly dispose of any trouble-makers that made it past the screening process and on-stage. (Our friend D was rejected... likely the miracle he needs is too complex for the TV audience.)
The first woman was young, round, smiling. He put his hand on her nose and cast her nasal demon OUT!!!, the echo of the word reverberating through the sound system into the surrounding mountains. Angley waved a perfume-soaked rag under her nose. "Whoooo!" she yelped, folded in half at the hips, and spun around. The crowd roared approval. He waved it in front of her face again. She gave the same shout, and the crowd roared again. Angley was happy too, and he turned to the crowd. "Who did it? Jesus! Say it with me. Who did it?" "Jesus!" the crowd shouted back.
Next was a young, thin man, looking nervous under the spotlights. Angley cast the demon OUT! and waved the perfume-soaked rag. The man sniffed, and looked confused. "Do you smell it?" The man kept sniffing, but the confused expression did not change. Close enough for Angley. "That's what you want your girl to smell like!" he crowed. "You want to go out with a girl who smells like this!" This conversation went on for much too long before Angley sent the man off stage. "Who did it? Jesus!!"
After a few more unconvincing nasal healings, Angley moved on to those deaf in one ear. He cast their one-sided demons OUT and demonstrated the successful miracle by putting a plump finger in the person's good ear, and speaking into the other ear (and the microphone, and thus the best sound system in Lesotho). And they could hear him. Stunning.
Moving on, one of Angley's thugs brought up a woman in her 40s. "Reverend Angley," he says, "This woman has been deaf and mute for over 20 years." Angley looked keen for the challenge. Arms waving, he cast OUT! the demon of deafness, and he cast OUT! the demon of muteness.
Putting his large face close to her's, he enunciated dramatically, "baaaay-BEE! Baaaay-BEE!". And again. He repeated it at least 20 times, the plastic face seemingly stuck in a robotic loop. Finally she understood that she was to repeat after him. "aay-eee", she pronounced, struggling. "Baaaaay-BEE!" Angley shouted, feeling close. "Bay-bee," she answered calmly. Angley gave a twitter, and the crowd thundered - it was definitely the best miracle yet.
The healed woman was communicating with the friend who had come with her, and after some discussion, the healed deaf-mute turned to Angley, speaking directly into the microphone in perfect English. "I am not mute. I have always been able to speak. But I cannot hear anything." Angley, still focused on the crowd, seemed not to hear. "Who did it?" he shouted, and answered his own question. The woman said something else inaudible, and the thugs escorted her off the stage. Angley now looked a bit confused. "Whatever she came here with," he stuttered, "She left with more, that's what's important. That's what Jesus does!"
Next was a man who was actually mute, and appeared to struggle greatly just to mumble incoherently into the microphone.
Angley used the same approach. OUT!, followed by, "baaaaay-BEE!" Mumble mumble mumble, came the response. Back and forth they went for several uncomfortable minutes.
"baaaaay-BEE!" Mumble mumble mumble. "Come on man, you have to put some effort into it," Angley encouraged, the translater repeating after him.
"baaaay-BEE!" Mumble mumble mumble.
"Don't say it with your head. Say it with your lips. You have to use your lips. baaaay-BEE!" Mumble mumble mumble.
"Use your lips man, your lips. Come on Lord, he's almost there, he just needs a little bit more help. Just a little bit more healing, Lord. baaaay-BEE!" Mumble mumble mumble.
Turning halfway to the man's friend, halfway to the audience, Angley dissimulated. "We've made progress here, but he doesn't know the language. You have to teach him. When I see you next year, he'll be speaking perfectly. Who did it?? JEEEEESUS!!"
This was followed by another mumbling mute, who suffered the same indignity. Headlines from the Onion were scrolling through my mind. "Deaf-mute just not trying hard enough to speak."
It was painful to watch. I came expecting to feel anger at this charlatan spreading mistruths about AIDS, but the display was too pathetic for me to feel anything but sadness. To age with dignity is a privilege not in our control. Whatever Angley once had, it seems to have left him long ago. Between the bright lights, the thugs, the 747 and the white suit, the show can go on, but the mojo is gone. I wondered how many of his support crew have stuck around out of reverence to what this man once was, supporters who cannot bring themselves to tell him that he is a disgrace, who instead work days and nights to help keep up the charade around him.
The "healings" went on. M was getting anxious, as he'd told his wife he would be home by nine. G was looking bored. More significantly, D was starting to pass out the flyers that he had prepared in advance of the event. Their message, in short: "Believe in Jesus, but don't believe in Ernest Angley. You can be healed, through the MIRACLE OF ARV DRUGS." If that wasn't enough to get the ex-marines' attention, the flyer was topped with Angley's face blocked out by the red circle-slash symbol for NO.
It didn't take long for one of the goons to grab me and G by the arms and rudely ask if we were distributing these flyers, though he seemed to have already made up his mind.
"No," I said disingenuously.
The change in demeanour was instant. "Well in that case you can stay," with a too-wide smile.
"But I guess it is my friend who's passing them out," I went on with a helpless smile, and we allowed ourselves to be escorted to our car by the gate.
Things took a turn downhill at that point, as D and M had apparently found the anger that I had not, and an immature shouting match had developed.
"You're killing these people!"
"No, YOU'RE killing these people!"
"I may go to Hell, but I know I'll see you there!"
"I'll take my chances, you hypocrite!"
Rolling a couple of metres out of the gate, D stopped the car and passed out the rest of his flyers. We drove home in silence, each with our own thoughts. I never did get to see what Angley was going to do with all the crippled and disabled that he had assembled under the stage. But maybe its for the best.
Until next year, Lesotho!

It's a shame that some would fight against Ernest Angley who is bring hope to many. My wife was dying and the good doctors could no longer help her, but we appreciated all they did for her. We went to Angley's service and she did receive a miracle. Ernest Angley knew what was wrong with her even though we never told anyone about her condition. Angley never claimed to heal her, but prayed for her in the name of Jesus as the Bible instructs Christians to do. She received an instant miracle and the tumor disappeared immediately. I was shocked and speachless. The tumor had grown large and was protruding from the back of her head. But after God healed her it is gone and has not returned. All the pain is gone and she is fine. I also know people who were cured of Aids after prayer from Angley and they have the medical papers to prove that they no longer have any sign of the virus. Whether anyone wants to believe that God still performs miracles through true Christian ministers or not is their God given choice. Angley isn't out to get rich as some ministers are (he reportedly makes very little and lives in an old house). I believe many of us "doubting Thomas type" have labeled Angley as just another one of those American false prophets. But, from my experience I know Angley is for real. Unfortunately, there will always be some who condemn Christianity and those who practice it's teachings, especially in regard to receiving miracles from God. If a person believes that there is a God who created the Universe, why is it so hard to believe He can remove Aids or cancer from a human? And, for a minister to tell people that there is hope through God is exactly what the Bible has told him to do. Angley believes in medicine too. But, he has said that when medicine has done all it can and it's still not enough for a cure then why not try God's divine help. This is not giving false hope. My wife is living proof.
I saw your posting earlier today and thought, "Man, that's a long post!" I was able to give it a read this afternoon and thought, "Wow P! That's one good work of fiction." It seemed so absurd, so ridiculous, that it couldn't possibly be true. But, when I went to the comments and saw christian's commentary I was really shocked. Sure enough Angley has a page on wikipedia. If he does, shouldn't I? Anyway, here's hoping this post boosts your readership. I hope christian takes time to read some of your other posts and to realize that you too are a miracle worker!
While God still does work miracles, it seems like some get their identity from "dispensing" these in a glitzy attention grabbing way. I don't believe Jesus went about things like this...often times even telling those healed "don't tell anyone about this". He healed not to bring crowds to faith, he left that in the hands of 12 seemingly unqualified disciples. He seemed to heal because he had REAL compassion for those hurting. It seems that heart comes through your desire to medically treat those. I apologize for those who in the name of Jesus make a spectacle of his name and his message. May the humility and love of Christ bring others to faith, and may miracles of modern medicine or of faith both heal those suffering from this terrible disease.
Actually, Christ did perform miracles in the open for all to see. Remember the loaves and fishes he multiplied in the midst of 5000 men (not including the women and children who also were there)? Miracles do draw people to God. In fact, my family was convinced of God's existance by a physical miracle when Ernest Angley prayed in the name of Jesus. You (from Alabama) obviously have never met the man or you'd realize that he has great great compassion and doesn't put on a show for himself. He wants people to see that God does care about humanity and wants to perform miracles so people will believe in God. God has performed miracles down through history in the open and yet He is still openly doubted while His true followers are criticized and misunderstood. But, Jesus said that that's the way it would be. I'm glad that Ernest Angley is obeying Jesus' commandment to believers in Mark 16:15-18.
Re your comment that you wished you'd come prepared to counter his message.... I was together with some Basotho communications types, along with some development worker friends, and we expressed our dismay at the manipulations of this sorry excuse for a preacher, Angley. It is truly evil to extract funds from the poor based on false promises, and to spread lies about the power of prayer to heal AIDS. What kind of judgements does that thinking pass on people whose prayers aren't heard? The whole premise is absurd, and sickening.
we all decided that it is our obligation, being media junkies & in posession of the tools to create counter-propoganda that will be as glossy and shiny as Angley's, to NEXT YEAR during the sorry miracle crusade, distribute materials that warn about the falsehoods being spread by Angley & his cronies, and point people in the direction of genuine assistance. (Incidentally, Angley can't talk about curing AIDS in South Africa because of that nations' better anti-fraud laws. )
If you are going to be around Lesotho in '08 let's be in touch about how we can do a small part in dismantling the dangerous myths this 'genuine fraud' is peddling. andrea_palframan at mac.com
I LIVED 2 MILES FROM THE CHURCH FOR 6 YEARS. I ATTENDED THERE AND WORKED THERE. I CAN HONESTLY SAY REVEREND ANGLEY IS LEGITE. I FAILED GOD AND MOVED BACK TO GEORGIA. I KNOW HE ISNT OUT FOR MONEY, IF HE WAS HE WOULD HAVE DONE FLED. HE JUST TURNED 86, I THINK HE WOULD HAVE ALREADY RETIRED. STUPID PEOPLE ACCUSE HIM, AND THINK THEY ARE HURTING HIM. HE BELIEVES WHAT JESUS SAID, "COUNT IT JOY WHEN YOU ARE PERSECUTED." SO, YOU AREN'T HURTING HIM, IT MAKES HIM HAPPY TO KNOW HE IS WALKING IN THE SHOES OF JESUS. AFTERALL, JESUS WAS PERSECUTED BY HIS OWN PEOPLE. GOD IS WHO YOU HURT, AND GOD WILL AVENGE. THE BIBLE SAYS VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY. SO, KEEP UP THE CRAZY COMMENTS, BUT WHEN GOD HAS HAD ENOUGH AND STRIKES YOU WITH A DISEASE OR KILLS YOU OR SOMEONE NEAR YOU, MAYBE THEN YOU WILL SHUT UP. NAH, I DOUBT IT. THOSE PEOPLE ARE FULL OF THE DEVIL. GOD IS A GOD OF LOVE, BUT HE IS ALSO AN ANGRY GOD. BE CARFEFUL IS MY ADVISE.
-- I've lived 2 miles from his church for ages. (Rex Humbard's former church the Cathedral of Tomorrow, renamed Ernest Angley's Grace Cathedral) and am very familiar with these preachers and had a clerical job at Rex Humbard's in the '70's during college. I counted $ and I also saw alot of the mail that came through and it was mostly from *uneducated people and in 1, 5 and 10 dollar amounts.(* after seeing alot of mail, you can tell) A girl who worked on the prayer line told me that the callers almost never read their Bible. (I'm going into detail about Rex because EA appeals to the same audience.) I didn't fully realise the great harm they do until later on. People end up watching their TV instead of going to church; they present Christianity as self serving when it's meant to help others; and they encourage people to depend on the preacher to interpret the Bible instead of reading it for themselves and going to Jesus directly. They are also horrible PR for the average person who ends up thinking all Christians are money- grubbing weirdos! I go to a thriving, balanced church now www.the-chapel.org We are also meeting real needs in Africa and India.
One of the worst things EA, Benny Hinn and others do is to take advantage of needy (God can make you rich- so give me some $!) and ill people (give more and get a miracle!) who are desparate. God will judge them.
Jesus said it real well in Matthew 7:
20"So then, you will know them by their fruits.
21"Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.
22"Many will say to Me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?'
23"And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.'
****************************
And who is he speaking of? One "miracle" does not the truth make.
Hello I would like to add my two cents to the Ernest Angely topic. Basically, I believe god is the only person that can heal along with prayer. Charlatans like Angely deceive and prey on those who have gone through much hardship and suffering in their lives. As a result, people like Angely should be locked up in jail for offering fraudulent hope to those that are ill and down on their luck.
To Whomever wrote this article I just say this. GOD will judge YOU. You say that Ernest Angley takes money from these poor people and exploits them did you seem to wonder HOW much money these crusades cost him? Do you think these people want to go to these third world countries and stay in these 2 star roach infested hotels just to get a mere couple of coins from these poor people? NO. Crusades cost MONEY. He isn;t going to France and staying in 5 star hotels (where he would really enjoy) himself and he has still lived in the SAME small house he and his wife shared after she died. Unlike these other so called pastors who buy mansions and take lavish vacations with the congretions money. I have been going to his cburhc since i was a child and have seen the miracles I have received. Oh and just to let you know when I called the prayer line and asked if they could send me a video from his crusade cause I was going to West Africa and wanted to show my family his crusades. WELL, they sent me a couple of videos of the crusade, books, bibles, bless cloths, and religious magazines all for FREE and I asked them how I could ever pay them back and they said IF I wanted I could just send a donation to any church I wanted. yeah...soo much for ripping of the poor. His face might be "pudgy" but beauty is in the eye of the beholder and is based on your heart and love for Jesus, not how handsome you look.
GOD Bless.
Ernest Angley is no phony,I do not agree with some of his doctrines, but I have met this man and he is the real deal.My husband had a friend who was going blind and she was healed at Rev,Angleys church. It is also true that many are not healed at all.Angley is a loving, absolutely sincere man,It is true that he lives in a little old house in Bath Ohio.God sometimes actually does miracles through this man, even though he is an imperfect and flawed human being! So dont be so quick to dismiss him,He is not like Benny Hinn or some of those shameful "preachers" on tv.Go there and meet him,he loves god with all of his heart, how many of us can say the same?...Alease
Ernest Angley is a great man of god. I am a member of that church and you can say what ever you want to say but, you should remember that it will be your falt if you cause them to think the wrong thing. He does the right thing, he collects money for ties and offerings to help the gospel spread across the world. If I were you I would delete this page or else you will go to hell and have judgement on judgement day. I have been healed there and many people has been healed of aids and has documents.
You have no right to talk about Ernest Angley like this!Youll egret it someday, youll want to di, but cant youll suffer. No doubt you have aready blasphemed and never will be forgiven. Forgotton by God. Hopless. Hell for all eternity. I hope you come to one our services before you have no chance of metting god!
I also went to see Ernest in 1978 in Chattanooga, TN with a friend of mine out of curiousity. A lot of what you describe sounds very similar to what I witnessed. I also felt very sad for the people in the audience who seemed to believe that he was someone 'special' and he was performing miracles cures. I'm amazed that the man is still on TV today still ripping people off!
As for the large number of people here defending him, ... well, it makes sense for Ernest Industries to pay people to scour the internet for anti-Ernest postings and them refute them and claim they have first-hand knowledge that he is the real deal. It's just an extension of the scam.
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
I love Ernest Angley dearly though he doesn't even know me or who I am.
I was blessed to be at Grace Cathedral on March 21st 2008.
I was healed of a disease that the medical community refuses to acknowledge exists even though there are more than 1,000,000 globally effected by this disease.
However, I lost the healing and am reclaiming it.
Many people here are misquoting scripture and attacking Reverend Angley.
FOR ANONYMOUS
Have you ever needed healing or a miracle? Reverend Angley NEVER takes credit for any of the miracles. He gives all glory to Jesus for the healings and miracles. He makes this statement over and over in his services.
Your statement.
As a result, people like Angely should be locked up in jail for offering fraudulent hope to those that are ill and down on their luck.
Duh! Jesus preached to the poor and the poor in spirit to give them hope and to the sick.
# Exodus 23:25
Worship the LORD your God, and his blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you,
As a matter of fact, here is the verse of the day from biblegateway.com on June 23, 2008.
“but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”- Isaiah 40:31
I can post many scripture on this.
IN RESPONSE TO LISA
Reverand Angley is not Rex Humbard.
If you move into a house or purchase property or an item that was previously owned by another, i.e., home, car, appliances, clothes, etc. do you take on the personal, physical, or other attributes of the previous owner. No. You do not. That is totally unfair for you to do that. What if someone did that to you, something that you purchased or was given to you that may have been owned by another and to automatically assume you are exactly like the previous owner. What kind of sense does that make?
There are several scriptures in the Holy Bible referring to tithing and sowing seeds. As a Christian, you should know that. I pray that you are being fed at your new church and pray all the best for you and your church's ministry to save the lost!
There is also scripture on Christians who bad mouth other Christians and also scripture on how we as Christians should greet each other "with an Holy Kiss."
I pray that each and every one of us here will be kept in God's Grace, Mercy, and Favor.
If you ever need a miracle in your life, you know where to go to get it!
Peace and Blessings to you all!
In Jesus' Name!
JOY in DC
I went to Grace Cathedral for a couple of months. For me the messages were like algebra and I was still in preschool as a Christian. My lack of education in the Bible did not exclude me from receiving a miracle and my daughter from receiving a miracle. I too, had a problem with the asking of money but the church needs lots of money to reach all the people it reaches. I was healed from a lump in my breast. I thought when people fell back that it was fake. Well, then I was up there and the healing knocked me back. Rev. A did not push me back. My daughter was healed of migrane headaches she had dealt with her whole life. He is a bit quirky, but God uses him. He does not take any credit for the healings. He gives all the credit to God. He is obedient and God can use him. Shouldn't we all be that obedient, the world would be a better place if we were .
Anyone know of a real Holy Ghost filled church like Grace Cathedral in Georgia?
I wish that I lived in the Akron area; I would be at every service. Reverend Angley is God’s Holy Prophet for our day.
God Bless The Soldiers Of The Cross!
I live about an hour away from grace cathedral and have attended on occasion over the years. I have done much research on false prophets and false healing revivals. What i have come to realize is that Earnest Angley is very rare in the world of prophets and healing ministers of God. Many leaders are sincere but I think that they lift up the Holy Spirit and God's presence, glory, healings, blessings, etc above Jesus. I believe this grieves His Holy Spirit I feel that it's the Holy Spirit's job to always point us to Jesus and His work on the cross because of our sins. It's not the other way around. I realize that people do get healed who have not been blood bought but the soul purpose of this is to give glory to Jesus and present the sinner with the opportunity to accept or reject Christ.Ernest Angley directs people to the cross and the saving, healing power of Jesus's shed blood. My mother recieved a healing and deliverence of severe depression. He prayed for her 15 years ago and she has not had an episode of depression since. I know that it was a true miracle because my father tried everything he could to get her help, including medication and shock treatments (which only made her worse). My son had Perthes disease in his hip bone which deformed it. ( I have the x-ray). After Rev. Angley prayed for him, he had another x-ray taken and the bone was completely grown in. (I have that x-ray also). I myself received a miracle when he prayed for me. I was suffering from panic attacks that caused me to pass out. After he prayed for me,I have not experienced a single panic attack in 4 years. I love Jesus with all my heart and have been serving Him for 30 years and I will never let go of Him because He saved me from certain hell and gave me the love and power to overcome my sin. I thank God for men and women like Ernest Angley who lift up the name of Jesus.
A witness to God's amazing love and power, Linda
Reverend angley is a genuine man of God a general of the faith and true bible preacher.i have visited his church many times.the people writing this awful mess against him angers me and it saddens me.i love reverend angley and his great ministry to the world.
I,Alease Brink Davis, have made many comments about Rev.Angley.I want to clarify what I believe.I believe he is 100% sincere,a dedicated man of God.I do not agree with many of his teachings, but I respect him as a man of integrity.I believe that people sometimes do recieve genuine miracles at his church.I came across a website called "Law vs Holiness",and it claims that Rev.Angley teaches that human life begins at birth,so abortion is not a sin.I find this very disturbing. The man who hosta the site, has alot of respect for Rev.Angley,he just wants him to realize how terribly wrong this is.I don't know if this is really true or not,I've never heard of a charismatic, pro choice minister!I would not want any women to think that abortion was an acceptable choice, and then be haunted by guilt and regret the rest of their life.If Rev.Angley does not teach this, then I apologise to him for bringing it up.But if it is true, that is SERIOUS.
It is indeed sad that the author of this attack upon a wonderful man, Rev. Ernest Angely has not posted any of his past association with Rev. Angely. I am 66 yrs old, a Pilot, Minister and great believer in the Lord. The wife & I went to the original Grace Cathedral in Akron in 1963-64 to see this man at work. At that time I was doing a research paper for a class at Mt. Union College and held that he may be a complete fake. He was not!!
Now 45 years later I know that he is a "true believer" and has brought many a sinner back to the Lord and the Church. WE love him dearly , I do healing it is the work of the Lord not the Minister. God Bless Rev. E. Angley
Earnest is a piece of crap. A total liar, a total fraud.
that's coming from someone who doesn't know a thing about ernest angley.. i my self has known him for over 22 years and he a true man of god..and nothing anyone can say will make me feel different..
May The Lord bestow His blessed peace to Ernest Angley, his flock, and his doubters. Peace be with us all.
God performs the miracles, not the person on this earth and I am clueless why you have to go to someone, other than God, to get what he promised directly to you. The big clue here is that when God choose not to heal, Ernest pretended like the person was healed, out of fear that he would look like a failure. He is interested in his appearance rathan than letting God have his way. Ernest is therefore trying to take credit for what God can do. He tried to cover up his own self and short comings, rather than letting God have his way, he made sure that you saw him have his way. I believe God uses people in season then leads them to a new season. Ernest is not following Gods Lead, Ernest is following himself.
People who think Ernst Angley is a fraud keep pushing the concept that he does it for the money. His ministries do indeed bring in $, but it appears that Ernest Angley is not in it for the money as he does very little to benefit himself. All the money goes back out to spreading the gospel and his healing services.
Be careful judging him, lest you be judged yourself!
this past football season my son suffered a jones fracture in his right foot. this is a break that does not always heal and often is a coraer end for pro athletes.he believed that he would be healed so we went to see ernest. my son was healed of a jones fracture and walked away the moment ernest prayed for him. the coachs would not let him play cause they saw the exrays.so we took him to another hospital because the one the week before would not do a second exray. needless to say the ortho saw the old fracture healed and released him to continue his great season as a running back. have exrays to prove story. glory to GOD
Hey folks, before you all go and say 'a ministry needs money to run' - don't forget that JESUS PREACHED THE GOSPEL FOR FREE... that's right for FREE. Angley's got a 747 for himself - a honest to got 747. That's excess to the extreme. Not only should he lose his tax exempt status as a 'church' - because a non-profit should practice a non-profit lifestyle - he should be thrown in jail. How many people are eating dog food while he jet-sets around the world. I fly into CAK for work all of the time and seeing his birs parked on the other side of the ramp is such a joke. No man, no matter how self stylized all fired up holy needs a jumbo jet to call his own. Take a commercial plane to your events - not a $50,000/hr to operate jet.
For all the snipes who ragged on Angley, re-post with your real name and address so that all those currently turning to Angley for help with whatever can instead turn to you -- and all show up on your doorstep day after day. -- dom youngross
i pray for all those who speak so harsh and evil things against angley i feel sorrow for your souls jesus is the healer i would hope you will met jesus on this side of the judgement please seek jesus he loves you so does angley and me
Send me money, send me green, heaven you will meet.

I lived 2 miles away from the Church for 7 years. I still can't get the stench of that foul charlatan to leave my nose. Perhaps I can attend a service and have him cast out his demonous stench.
As to the defenders of this little imposter of faith, I feel sorry for you.
He claims to heal people with AIDs and they still die from AIDS.
He is the "Pardoner's Tale" in modern times. He only wants your MONEY.
WAKE UP PEOPLE!
I took a GF who was terminal with liver cancer to Ohio to see him the cancer left her that night her doctors said it was impossible but that it did happen He is a true man of God
