Ernest Angley and the road to Hell

A new sign has appeared in Maseru, causing me some anxiety. It looks like this:

The sign is everywhere, and where there is no sign, there are smiling people in yellow t-shirts handing out flyers. Nothing since I have been here has been so well advertised as this.

In a country where fighting misinformation is a major part of the battle against HIV/AIDS, I am not sure these crusaders have picked the right side.

The sad thing is, I don't even think they are ill-intentioned. I am willing to bet Angley and his gang are here at a loss, funded by their church in Ohio. It's not a scam: they really believe in what they are dispensing. (Though I bet their home church in Ohio is not doing too shabbily...) No matter how many people show up to a crusade in Maseru, an offering plate passed among the poor here is not going to make a dent in the airfare or hotel budget of Angley and his friends.

On the other hand, those few dollars thrown into the offering plate probably are the school fees of a child, or at least somebody's dinner. Picture it: the poor throwing their livelihoods into a pot to finance wealthy preachers on their world tours. What a reversal of the message of Christ!

Of course, the worst of it is that last line on the advert: AIDS and Other Death Diseases Healed! They clearly have not thought about the irresponsibility of claiming to cure AIDS. Rather, somebody had the idea, "AIDS is a big problem in Africa, I bet that would be a real hook!"

This kind of thing isn't generally that destructive in the United States. The preacher claims to cure your cancer, you go see your doctor the next day, take a few tests, and you can verify the claim. If the miracle is a fake, nothing is lost.

But in Maseru, people have more faith, and the word of an American preacher may be as good as the word of a doctor. Especially when the preacher says you are healed, and the doctor's solution is to prescribe you medicine for the rest of your life.

So if Mr. P___ goes to see Mr. Angley, and hears that he is healed, maybe he will believe. Maybe he will believe, and, in an act of faith, stop taking his medicine. Maybe he will get sick three weeks later, and get tested again, discovering that he still has HIV. Except during his three week hiatus from the medicine, the HIV has developed resistance. And now he has HIV, and thanks to Mr. Angley, the meds no longer work.

I was hoping to make it to one of the events, but my anaphylactic reaction in Johannesburg prevented me. I'm sure that going would only have upset me further. I am told that in the culmination of the event, Angley waved his hand across the masses, and shouted, "If you have cancer, you are cured. If you have AIDS, you are cured."

I don't know if miracles happen or not. I'm inclined to think they can. But I don't for a second believe that they can be manufactured. You can't advertise that on such-and-such a date, miracles will be performed. You can't wave your hand and cure cancer and AIDS in thousands of people.

HIV is not like cancer. There is a tremendous social stigma around the disease, long queues to see an HIV doctor, and a lot of people aren't even quite sure they believe in it. All these things make a miracle cure tremendously appealing, because a miracle cure means people do not have to face up to what HIV means, to take responsibility for getting tested, to think about how their behavior needs to change.

People in Lesotho doesn't need a miracle worker. They need education, and they need compassion and understanding from their families and communities. The resources are there to help far more people than are seeking treatment at this time, but people need to take the initiative to get tested, to seek treatment. Miracle workers like Mr. Angley only perpetuate the stigma - they let people think, "Maybe he's for real. Maybe I don't have to get tested now." And the sickness spreads further.

The big event was on April 1st. The tired, the poor, the huddled masses, they turned up in large numbers to see what this great American had to offer them. But it was April Fool's Day, and the joke was on them.

What a sham! How much does Angley and his goons give the government? I'm asking this because if I were the government, I'd restrict his lies somehow, unless of course he lines my pockets with hard needed cash.

The greatest danger, as you say, is that his miracles will actually increase the spread of HIV/AIDS.

Or maybe that's exactly what he wants to do: spread not the message but the virus. If so, why would he do that? Well, that would depend on his political affiliations.

To be sure, I don't really believe that's why he's down there. I believe the reason he's in my country, lying to my country-people about their health, and promising them things he can't deliver... he's doing all that because he's stupid.

What are the options for stopping him? Rethabile talked about government. Could the media be used?

What a sad and frightening story, and the worst kind of 'evangelism'; I'm sure he got many converts and donations out of this farce. The problem is, that providing knowledge and exposing the sham would not be enough. There is precious little for many people to belief in - their families are falling apart, they can't get ARVs, their children have to watch their parents die. And when your life is mired in poverty, you'll jump at a chance for a 'feel good' message, which may be similar to the healing practices back in the village.

Educating people won't be enough to counter this kind of crook. Mass media doesn't reach many people, people may not trust health workers. There are a lot of factors which need to be touched upon - livelihoods support, care and treatment of families, ARVs, caring health workers - in order to counter the messages of someone like Angley. In the meantime, he offers 'hope,' a very shallow type.

It is sad.

This character's organization would most likely be operating as "not for profit" in the U.S. As such, they are required to file annual returns with the Internal Revenue Service on a Form 990. These returns and the information they contain MUST be made available to the public. Probably faster to request from this "Church" instead of the IRS. They will probably be stupid enough to send it to you, expecting a big donation. It's common practice for contributors with deep pockets to request to see this information before handing over big contributions. It would be interesting to see just how much this charlatan really is raking in.

E, ntate, it's bad.

But of course everyone who's lived in Lesotho (or elsewhere in SSA) has seen the syndrome in other forms, and who wouldn't rather believe in miracle cures or conspiracy theories than think sex could kill them?

And for that matter, what devout Christian doesn't truly believe that his or her God can cure sickness? And how much evidence of the power of modern medical science have the Basotho been shown?

One of my favorite things about Sesotho is the way "hope" and "trust" are expressed in the same word. Angley has made a long career of selling the poor, ignorant and desperate of the USA the former while stealing and misusing the latter. But as any seller of lottery tickets know, sometimes people crave hope more than reason.

How many times in Lesotho did I find a conversation wherein someone asked me, "So...you're telling me muti won't cure AIDS and sex with a virgin won't cure AIDS...so what will?" And when aid workers are saying "Well, we got nothin', but good nutrition and a healthy lifestyle can keep you around a while while we work on it" and others are saying "Get your cure right here, the line forms to the right," who can blame them for reaching for their wallets?

Actually there have been medically documented cases of people who attended Ernest Angley's crusades that were indeed cured of AIDS / HIV. Ernest Angley never claims to heal anyone, only to pray with faith in God that He will heal those who believe. My wife was instantly healed of a brain tumor. After Ernest Angley prayed for her God healed her and she hasn't had anymore problems. The tumor was growing so fast it began to be visible on the back of her head. After God healed her it disappeared completely. I would have lost my wife to death if God had not intervened. Another misconception that some have is that Ernest Angley takes the money from the collections. It is well known that the money stays within the country that he is a guest of. It just helps pay for expenses to hold the services. He and his group help spurn the economy wherever they go and that can do nothing but help the local residence. I've heard nothing but good about they're impact on businesses, schools, hospitals and prisons. I'm not here to defend him, because he doesn't really need defending. I'm just relaying my experience with his ministry. It seems to follow a full gospel approach in regards to salvation and healing according to the Bible. Of course, if you don't believe in the Holy Bible or Christianity I can see how some would not like the Ernest Angley Ministries. But, on the other hand, he is known for never bashing other people's beliefs. I believe he has a heart to help people throughout the world and we shouldn't critize that. I also realize that it's easy to misjudge because there are so many false evangelists and it can be easy to think they are all the same. In this particular case, Ernest Angley is the real deal.

I also call bullshit. What a dangerous and reprehensible charlatan. Mr. Angley is. He should be tried for, at the very least, manslaughter.

Ernest Angley is not Jesus. Do not compare the two of them.

Faith Healers are generally charlatans. I don't know if Ernest Angley is or not. However from viewing his site, I find him very suspect.

I do believe in power of prayer and meditation. I think it's possible you could be healed by these things. But this should not prevent people from visiting doctors and getting tested. If Ernest Angley doesn't tell these people they should visit their medical professionals then he is doing the people he claims to love a grave disservice. This is irresponsible and not very Christian.

I don't believe anything that is told to me by someone who doesn't source or use an identity on blogger. If you want to prove faith healing works (esp when relating personal anecdotes) then you need to back that up and not just quote scripture at people (who probably won't read it anyway).

Greetings.

I checked out Mr. Angley's website, and his travel schedule indicates that he took the "show" to Bloemfontein afterward.

I know for a fact that it is a crime in South Africa to claim that you can cure AIDS. They've used it against a few charlatan sangomas in the past. (I'm not by any means implying that all sangomas are charlatans, but the ones who claim they can cure AIDS certainly are.)

At any rate, I do think the South African authorities should be informed that this guy is spreading false promises, in violation of their laws. I would do it myself, but I'm on the opposite side of the continent now, and I think the complaint would need to come from someone actually *living* in South Africa. Any volunteers?

A note to all readers:

Resorting to an Ad Homenem attack of calling Angley a "Charlatan", "thief" or "crook" does nothing more to bolster the cause of reason than do quotes form the Old Testement or the New Testement do to support Angley or his disciples.

If one is a "true believer", then they will find support within the religous texts to explain what is clearly occuring as a result of the work of men. That being said . . .
a more studied approach to the Bible would reveal that it is an alagorical work and that G-d rarely intervines without the work of people Faith or words alone of people do nothing it reqires their actions as well. G-d did'nt just kill the Phillistines; David and Sampson, for example had to activley fight them. Noah had to put the labour of building that big boat so as to save the creatures of the world. The same applies to our problems today.

Faith without works are mere words without power.

Pray however you want, then see your doctor.

I've heard Ernest Angley say that he has never cured anyone. He said that God has the cure. He's also said that people should go to their doctor to be evaluated and go by what the doctor tells them as far as continuing to take the prescribed medicine. He said he believes in doctors and good medicine. My cousin was healed of HIV after God healed him (Ernest Angley prayed for him at one of his services) and the doctors released him from taking the medication. Since the virus was no longer found in his blood the doctor saw no reason for him to continue with the drug therapy. You can believe or doubt whatever you want about whether God heals, but I've seen miracles and I believe. There are many false prophets in the world, but Ernest Angley isn't one of them. I'm the ultimate skeptic and have studied him closely and have even met him in-person. I'm no longer a skeptic when it comes to what Angley teaches or what he stands for. I'm anonymous because I don't care to take the time to register on this board. It wouldn't matter anyhow to the dishonest doubters on here. To anyone else that has an open mind about God, I say just pray about what you've read in all these comments and let God lead you to what the truth really is about Ernest Angley, miracles, faith, etc. I realize I've probably stirred up a hornets nest, but oh well, this is what I believe. God bless!

AIDS and Other Death Diseases Healed!
As my husband & i arrived at the Lesotho Sun hotel to pick up our rental car to return to Canada after 3 months of volunteer work, I saw the most colourful car sitting at the front door, with the above words and the rest of the advertising painted across the sides of the car.
We had spent the last 3 months working with orphans and grandmothers, those most affected by the losses of a generation from AIDS. I was livid at the cavalier approach taken with such a horrible disease and cound not contain myself when I saw 2 of the Angley people sitting in the lobby in their bright Angley golf shirts. They were visibly shocked when I approached them, demanding them to tell me if they could cure AIDS, as promised in the advertising being handed out all over town. "Gawd can".. one of them whined with her face in a pout. I told them they were a disgrace to the human race. Not graceful, tactful or helpful but I could not bear them and their cruel arrogance and could not leave them sitting comfortably. They deserved so much worse.
The day before, I came across a woman with a group of orphans who were begging in the shopping centre near the bus/taxi stand where the other Shoprite store is in Maseru. She was also handing out the Angley pamphlets. Made my stomach sick. The Basuto are religious people and are desperate for heatlh relief. So Bush has sent it in the form of TV hoaxsters! Isn't life grand?

I too thought that Reverend Angley was a fraud the first time I came across him and the crusade. This has changed and I now support him and his efforts to help the people of Africa. He does not just consentrate on africa either. He takes his crusades to the world and he does go around the United States.

He does insist on people seeing thier doctors and proving the miracles medicaly. He also does not claim that all who attend are healed. He will generally identify who has received healing in the audience so that they will know who they are.

For those who doubt that God can heal, I challenge you to attend a service and see for yourself that God really does heal during the miracle services.

The crusades cost the ministry a lot of money and raise money for the local churches in the country where they are held.

Its strange how that people who want to chritisize Reverend Ernest Angley, go as far as lying about what he preaches. Reverend Angley has never told anyone including African people that he personnaly cures HIV/AIDS , he repeats over and over again who did that for you and the peolpe say Jesus. I,ve with his ministry for ffteen years. And he's never taken credit for healing anybody. The bible plainly tells us that Jesus is the healer, and that people who use his name in faith believing will receive the fufilment of his promises not ernest angley's. My mother was personaly healed of smoking when I was twelve and she has had her miracle now for almost sixteen years. My friend John was healed of smoking also and he has his X-Rays at the Civic hospital here in Ottawa, Ontario Canada. The week before his miracle he had an X-ray done and it showed his terrible lung condition a week after he recieved his miracle, and Dr. Smith at the Civic Hospital took three X-rays in all because he coudn't believe it himself, and got two other physicians to look at the medical tests. So to those who would rather critisize and lie about Gods healing love If you ever need a miracle make sure you visit ernest angley at a miracle crusade or at 2700 state Rd. Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio and have him pray for you but don't forget to bring a sincere heart believe me you won't be disapointed I saw the power of God in action for myself.

Marc,

Thanks for commenting. I am not trying to argue about whether miracles happen or whether they are done by Angley or by Jesus. I'm concerned about the unintended consequences of well-intentioned people like Angley. I am glad for the healings in your life, and all others who have benefited from Ernest Angley - the comments on this post suggest there are a few.

Nevertheless, HIV is different from other diseases, and Africa is different from America. Medically, in Africa, you have *one* chance not to die of AIDS, and that is to stick to your medicines. If you leave off even for a few days, the virus can become immune, and there is no second line of drugs available. You will die.

People come to the HIV clinic after a crusade, and say, "I've stopped taking my medicine because I was healed," or they don't come back to the clinic at all. Even if 1 in 5 people were cured at the crusade, which would truly be amazing, the other 4 in 5 are much more likely to die in the next 5 years. That's not a very good outcome.

And don't tell me even half the people who have HIV were cured at the crusade - if that were true we would see an appreciable drop in the AIDS rate here, given how many people go to the crusade. We didn't when Angley came last year, and I somehow doubt this year will be any different.

I don't want to argue about the theology of Angley, or whether miracles happen... this conversation is already happening on the internet ad nauseum. But preachers like Angley should be more responsible about thinking about the unintended consequences of what they are doing, like more people getting AIDS and dying of it in Africa.

I attended that church for 12 years and seen good people die again and again because they had cancer or other terminal illnesses and got prayer, stopped taking meds. and died!!! Also he incourages people to get abortions. The men there almost all have vacectimies(sp?) and he discourages at all cost reproduction!! He discourages vacations, pets or any other extra curricular activities that would take one into the "world." Don't affiliate with anyone who is not saved including family members. 12 years of this!! I keep reading all of the comments, but what are you doing? If you are that concerend about the people. What have you done to help them. The bible clearly states that the sick can be healed by both YOU and God. There are times in the bible when God heals by His Spirit falling down upon people, but there are other times when Jesus said "You heal the sick. You calm the storm" Yes, He is the one who has the power, but he tells you to do it. And then there are some who have the healing gift.

So before casting stones at Ernest Angley maybe you should go out and heal the sick. If you are not reaching out to those around you, then you are not a believer. You may go to church, you may be a good person. But throughout the bible, Jesus, Paul, Peter etc... Spent time in the streets operating in healings, signs and wonders and that same power is for you today, if you have a heart after God.

I have never seen anyone get off drugs because of education. I have only seen people know how to avoid cops and take more drugs. But I have seen people totally changed from addictions and healed after one encounter with God.

I am going to challenge you to step out in faith 1,000 times within the next year, starting today. For those of you who claim to follow Jesus. Step out in faith, in your hospitals, community, etc... And you will not be stoning Ernest Angley with your words but operating in the same power of God. Most of you will just mock this post because you don't follow Jesus you just go to church and feel like you have really done something, or you have never met Jesus. If you have never met Him and want to meet Him then pray this prayer Jesus I want to know you. I believe you died on the cross for every bad thing I have done or bad things done to me. I want to make you Lord of my life. I want to know you. Fill me with your Holy Spirit and live your life through me. In Jesus name I pray. Amen. God Bless.

I am a member of Ernest Angley's ministry and a member of the Angel's Grace Cathefral Choir there. And I have read every single one of the above comments. What I dont get is what makes Reverend Angley look so bad. Put yourself in these peoples shoes. What if you had AIDS. What if you couldnt afford the medicine. What if you didnt want to endure all of the pain and suffering of treatment. Wouldnt you like to see if reverend Angley is real? What if he can be used as an instrument through God to curse the AIDS virus. And what if you become afflicted with AIDS? Wouldnt you at least give God a chance? Reverend Angley is truely a man of God. He preaches the whole truth and nothing but the truth. I am even a witness to his miracles. Last year I was in an accident and my skull was cracked open about 1/16 of an inch. For those of you who dont know youre suppose to die instantly if its that big. And I was bleeding from the brain. I went to the doctor and they said that I should have been dead as soon as it happened. This was confirmed when I later talked with Reverend Angley. But thank God I was healed and now I'm spreading the gospel of jesus along with Reverend Angley in this last and final hour. I just pray that all of you realize that Reverend Angley really is a true man of God

Dear whoever posted the last comment,

I'm glad you're in Ernest Angley Ministries. I am the one who wrote the post:

"I have studied the Ernest Angley Ministry closely, and have witnessed dumb-founding miracles. I believe in miracles not because of Ernest Angley or because he sends tracts saying "AIDS can be healed". I believe it because the Bible says so, and have witnessed so many miracles to deny it.

However, I have had one bad experience with a member in the Ernest Angley Ministries. She was in the Angel's Choir too. I don't want to mention her name here. I would try speaking to this lady about the Lord Jesus, and all she had to say was about Ernest Angley. I love this man of God, but I wouldn't waste my time talking about him, I want to talk about Jesus, for it is He who gave me life and healed me.

I told this lady that she was focusing more on Reverend Angley, than God and she got really angry. It was just something that she could analyze by herself. But such arrogance was something I never expected from a member from the Ernest Angley Ministries.

Reverend Angley is a man of God, though I wouldn't accept everything he says to be true. For example: Reverend writes in his article, "If you ask a good doctor he will tell you that the blood of a child is from it's father". This statement is absolutely false. I took Reverend at his word, and even argued with doctors! But no doctor I have ever met has said this was true. On the contrary, ALL doctors said the blood of a child came from both mother and father.I believe in Jesus' divinity, and I believe He had divine blood, but the way Reverend explained it is absolutely wrong. I have observed many wrong teachings in the ministry, but the basic Gospel of Jesus that Reverend preaches is true: Jesus died for our sins and rose again on the third day.

Don't get me wrong, I believe in blood-bought salvation, in divine healing and the Holy Spirit baptism.

We don't know everything. God is capable of healing everyone everywhere. Just because I don't know how to make him do it at my will does not prove that it is impossible. Consider some positive facets to these people. They are self empowered; seeking healing under their own steam. They are not just waiting to die or trusting the incomplete knowledge of medicine (which they can't afford either).

I live down the road from his cathedral in Ohio. Let me tell you, these people that follow Angley are completely brainwashed. They are KOOKS!!!

My friends and I went to an evangelical service one night as a joke and we were appalled at the way that he asked for thousands of dollars from these poor people who don't have any money. The best part is is that they gave it to him!!!! These people gave him their tax returns. Little kids went up to him with loose change and he actually had the audacity to frown upon them and say "that's all you can afford to give?"

Rumor has it, that Ernest had a special telephone buried with his dead wife which is actually an active phone line so that when Christ returns to Earth, he can give her a call and let her know!!!

So when my friends and I got fed up with his BS we decided to leave mid-service. Oh my god!!!...you should have seen the looks that people gave us for walking out while the service was still going on.

Case in point...this guy is a crook. He has his own personal 747. He is totally pocketing the money of his followers.

Posted by a lay person from Ernest Angley's Grace Cathedral.

I've been a part of this Jesus Ministry since July of 1994. I had a ruptured disc in my back that was confirmed by doctors. I went up in the healing line and recieved an instant miracle. I give the Lord Jesus all the praise honor and glory. I've been serving Jesus ever since. I find no fault in the Church I so proudly am a part of.

The Truth is Jesus heals today. There is no better way for God to save the lost of this world than to reach out his mighty hand and heal someone who will in turn serve him.

Look to the Word of God for all the answers to your questions. They are clearly there if you are willing to see. Don't fight what you don't understand. You just may find you are actually fighting the God of Heaven.

When you fight God's ministry you are actually fighting every little boy and girl who recieve their miracle. If you could I'm sure you would help your child any way possible. Dear one God can and he truely does help those that need him and seek him in faith.

I am an active financial supporter and proud of it. I have seen where the money goes and find no fault. Reverend Angley has lived in the same ranch home for over forty years.

One question, how much would my back miracle be worth in dollars and cents. It, my friend is priceless. Jesus said freely ye have recieved, freely give. I have recieved many miracles since I met my Lord Jesus. I owe him my all.

Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today and forever.

I love my preacher and I'm proud to be a part of this Jesus Ministry.

For those of you who do not believe, I was a non believer in the fact that those are real miracles, then I attended a service of his and asked for a talent. THAT'S RIGHT A TALENT!!! It was to sing well then I went home and made a CD. So for those of you who do not believe Jesus is working through Ernest Angely, maybe you should reconsider your thoughts.

It's easy to come on here and tell lies about Ernest Angley in anonymity. It's also easy to make fun of his hair when you have no other substantial points to make.

It's easy to lie and say that Ernest Angley has shamed children for bringing him change, like one poster chose to do. I assure you I have been in far more of his services than you ever have, and I have never heard him say anything like that to a child. He always thanks them and acts just like he does to an adult giving a larger sum. Why? Because of a time when he was a child and he gave a piece of money to a preacher and the man just shoved it in his pocket as if it were nothing. This happened during the days of depression in the United States, when even a single piece of change was important. As a result of this incedent Ernest Angley always makes sure to let kids know whatever they give is important to God and him.

It's also easy to say that he discourages against having pets, but that simply isn't true. I know plenty of people in his church who have many pets, and I know those who have chose to not have any. I have never heard Ernest Angley preach against having pets. He does preach against having anything in your life that comes before God, and that God should have first choice of your time and resourses, but that's not an Ernest Angley origonal message that one comes directly from Jesus himself in the Bible. Recall the situation in mark 10:17, where a young man came to Jesus asking "Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?" After Jesus telling the young man to follow the standard commandments the young man told Jesus he had followed them sinse he was a child, Jesus told him he lacked one thing and to "go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor" Jesus didn't actually expect the young man to go forth and give EVERYTHING he had away. Jesus was looking for a willingness to give up everything for God and eternal life, but sadly for the young man he didn't have that willingness. Jesus would have stoped the young man before he gave away all he owned and made himself a begger, but there was no need to because the young man went his own way. This is what Ernest Angley teaches, that you must be willing to give God first choice of everything, he will not take every minute of your life and leave nothing for you to enjoy normal pleasures of life, but sadly many act just the young man, they here the command to give everything to God and they turn away angered as the young man did, even knowing his story.

For someone to imply that Ernest Angley discourages vacations is an all out, bold faced, lie. If he was "anti-vacation" why would he give his staff, choir members, and musicians two weeks for a vacation? Why would his three associats take vacations as they do yearly? If he taught this way do you think he would have three associates who annually defy his message? If you're going to tell lies atleast make them ones that aren't so easily disproved.

On the claim that almost all the men at his church have vasectomies: have you personally verified this? Did you go to the doctor with them? Have you read their medical records? Have you surveyed them all to have some data to back this up? Or, did you hear one or two state that they did and decide that they all did? Yes, some of them have had it done, but that is their choice. A vasectomy is not a condition for membership in his church. Maybe, someone who thinks they know everything about everything and everyone gossiped to you such a false "fact". On a related note Erenest Angley also teaches against gossip. You say also that he discourages reproduction. Tell me why then do long term members of his church have children? You say he discourages contact with family who is unsaved. That statement is taken from multiple teachings and turned into one large generalized untruth, by you. Ernest Angley teaches not to spend alot of time with people who try to tear down your beliefs, whether thats relatives or not. That is just plain logical, religious or not. Why would you want to frequently associate with someone who wants to constantly tear down what you believe in, if you do your beliefs don't mean much to you to start with. He also teaches not to stay out of church to be with family, and that goes back to giving God first choice of your time. There's plenty of time to visit family and friends that doesn't overlap with the time God wants from you. Furthermore, anyone who decides to spend time with others instead of going to church doesn't really value what they get at church to start with. You spend alot more hours outside of church on the weekends than you spend inside the church.

The origonal poster claimed that someone told him "Angley waved his hand across the masses, and shouted, 'If you have cancer, you are cured. If you have AIDS, you are cured." This was either a lie by the poster or a lie by the person who told him this. Ernest Angleyt never does anything of that sort. He has never preached anywhere that everyone in the audiance who has a specific desease is now healed. He preaches that all healing and miracles from God have conditions. Conditions such as; you have to use faith to recieve from God, and you must serve God to keep what you recieve. Those who meet these conditions recieve, those who don't are shut out from recieving at their own fault. Many times God will give Ernest Angley a number of people that he(God) is healing or is going to heal of a specific desease, but never has Ernest Angley told an audiance that everyone there is healed of AIDS or any other desease.

To the person who decided to bring up the old tired myth that Ernest Angley has a working phoneline installed in his wifes casket; it's just that an old tired myth that has long been disproven. The story started with a flower arrangment with a telephone on it. From there it has been told, retold, twisted, and rewriten in time, for the thirty-six years she has been dead. In a sadly ironic twist the telephone myth has been twisted and exaggerated in manner like unto the childrens game
"telephone", Where someone starts a story and then it is passed around the room one person at a time till on the other side of the room it comes out as a whole different story than was first told.

The fact is you may try to come against the points i have clearly made, but in the end you'll say what you'll say, and I'll say what I know, and in the end God will sort who is wrong and who is right in eternity.

The healing is real. No, Angley does not do it himself. He has never taken credit for it. If you watch him (as I'm sure most of the people here never have), he never takes credit for the healing and gives God all the glory.

The reason I say the healing is real is because I've experienced it. My Mother had a brain tumor on the base of her brain; it had grown to the size of a quarter and was slowly killing her. When Angley prayed for her on stage, the constant symptoms she was having (dizziness, nausea) instantly vanished. When she got her MRI scan done, miraculously...the tumor was gone. It was unbelievable!

I will always believe in healing.

Angley's messege brings hope and thats the essence of faith. Hats off to all believers!

Ernest Angley is a true and humble man of God. He is not a faker, he has never claimed to have healed anyone, but that God is the healer. God has anointed this man with certain gifts and if some of you people who think you know what you are talking about will take the time out and read 1 Corinthians 12, you can read about the spiritual gifts that God gives to those who are in Him (God). Jesus said that there will be scoffers in the last days and that the true children of God will be persecuted because they are truly living for Him (Jesus) in Matthew 5:11-12, "Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you." You see Jesus knew people were going to do this, because they did it to the past prophets, and they also did it to Him. I know that there are some false prophets out in the world, but Ernest Angley is most certainly not one of them. If you were truly seeking to get closer to God and putting faith in Him (God) and His mighty power instead of ways of trying to slander this man of God, you would soon find out that he is a real man of God.

That's exactly the people who is preying on, pardon the pun. People desperate for a last hope cure.

The fact that he can't cure, and never has cured, anyone with AIDS is far more important - and damaging to the country - than a trivial sentiment such as "I am sure all the sceptics would grovel for Angley's healing prayer when they are terminally ill ... Hats off to all believers!".

By supporting him, you are fuelling the damage.

I have noticed that many of the comments about Angley have been negative. I however, being a Christian, believe that he is a man of God who is being used by God himself to show all the people with little faith what God can really do for them. Only our Father in heaven gives that kind of power. The books of John and Acts in the bible speaks about how Jesus himself and his apostles went around preaching the good news to the people and healed them. When Jesus rose from the dead and was taken to heaven, he said that he will not leave us alone but he will leave us with the Holy Spirit(God himself) who will lead us to the truth. This means that those who have been born again and baptised with the Holy Spirit have God living in them, together with the Holy Spirit, we are one. So, pastor Angley is demonstrating God's power to heal, but only with faith, will you believe and receive healing.

I would also like to raise some points concerning complaints with Angley's program being aired on TV. Many people in this world want to see the usuall on TV. Violence, Sex, Drugs, Sexully explicit music videos and ads, which is sad and not Godly. And now that a man of God has arrived with something positive, people now are uncomfortable and agitated as they see something constructive GODLY, which is contradictary to what they are used to seeing. i think it is about time the world turn to God and believe in his miracle, after all, we are all his children and he created us and the things in this world. PRAISE BE TO GOD. AMEN

I too am a member of Reverend Ernest Angleys church. I am a member of the choir also. All I can say is when I came to this church I was a doubter. I looked for things that weren't right, things that were "fake", things I seen when I went to another televangelists service years ago. The thing is.... I seen NONE. I have been here for almost ten years and have seen nothing questionable. Reverend Angley is a human being, just like you and me. The difference between him and most people is that he has devoted his life 100% to God. He is a very nice man... he is a very down to earth man with a very big heart. He has helped me with many situations by sitting down and talking to me, not asking me for any money or with any other motive, just only because he cares. He is someone that believes the word of God just like it's written. If you have a problem with the message he preaches then that means you have a problem with the Bible and with Jesus. He is doing exactly as God has instructed everyone to do in the word of God, sad thing is he is practially the only one doing it. So what if he wears a hairpiece???? Would you have criticized Jesus because of his hair? You've never seen Jesus have you? Would you have been one of the ones spitting on Jesus as he hung on the cross??? He's simply preaching the uncompromised word of God like the Bible tells everyone to do. How dare anyone blame Cassandra's death on the ministry! So what if it happened at the Buffet..... Would you feel any different had it happened across the street at Burger King?! Did Jesus raise everyone from the dead that died when he was on earth? NO,.. he didn't...huh, I guess that means Jesus was a fake too? If you don't understand Reverend Ernest Angley, come to church and do some research, better yet, open your bible and do some research,..... if you own one. The reason he has taken his ministry work to Africa and other countries is because of unbelievers in the USA. People that no longer care about the cause of Christ, that is what this country is filled with. Other countries still give God a chance. It's sad when we can't even find people in the US that have an open heart for Gods work. I hope some of you actually take a minute and think about your life and why you say the things you do. You will be held accountable when your life is over. Don't believe me? You will..It will just be too late for some of you.

They not only testified but thier family members and neighbours testified and all got saved because of such miracles!
If you say they are scams, can you please provide hard evidence of your investigations on those you claim fake healing and deliverance and prove to the world that they were indeed not sick. Check with the hospitals/their doctors and prove that they were NEVER sick and that they only faked being sick and later got healed!
I have a friend whom I am still with, who had a growing mass in her left breast in 1997 (diagnosed in Mulago National Referral Hospital in Uganda) and after prayer, the mass dissolved todate.

The collections are not to help Ernest Angley; they are to help those who give because when you give, you receive. The cycle of poverty is only broken throgh giving.

I want you to start holding crusades...Ask people to give money to you, plant your people to fake those "miracles" and let us observe how long your MINISTRY WILL LAST or WHETHER IT WILL EXPAND.

It is actually ashaming that up to this time, people limit God on what he can do. They say to themselves, well he can provide me with life and not health, save me but not cure AIDS. Am one of those few people who will stan and testify of God's goodness through Ernest. He once sent me a blessed cloth when my mother was sick and I put it on her. My mother got welland I give God all the praise and glory.
We should develop a culture of believing God for what is impossible in our lives when we still can for when we pretend and even reach an extent of abusing a preacher, we are wrong. I always tell my freinds that it does not matter how many time we pretend not to believe God for a miracle. In our lives as long as we are still living, we shall at one moment as God to heal us or save us in one way or the other. And there we shall be hunting for the miracle that we once despised. For this reason, it costs us nothing to pray to God that the people who attend these crusades recieve their miracles other than just critising them. I simply pray that God shows thos who oppopse hi power how wiling and capable he is to heal.

While Ernest Angely may be a good man and have good Christian intentions, the tone in his message has changed since the death of his wife and since the years of his tent revivals. He is an Evangelist, not a preacher. Evangelists are called by God to make aware the fear of God. Somewhere along the line, Rev. Angely has forgotten this. On another note, I personally have a problem with any preacher/evangelist/teacher/organization...ANY ONE who takes up over 5 offerings in a service. This does happen in his services, and what kind of a preacher teaches from the books he has written. What about that plane? Are taxes being paid on it? Did the IRS get their tax cut on the purchase, (Which is a requirement on all aviation equipment).
I have experienced the separation from family due to this ministry. God talks a great deal about family and never says to separate from family even if they are not saved. First hand knowledge knows this to be true about his ministry, or at least about him. He does in fact preach or believe to separate yourself from non-christian family members. I am a Christian and my family separated from me due to this ministry.
Even Rev. Angely himself separated from a brother who was not a Christian, as defined by Rev. Angely. Even when his brother died, he did not go to his funeral. That is cruel and not Christian-like.
Rev. Angely also believes that to make the rapture you have to have the Holy Ghost. This is not Biblical. The Holy Ghost is a gift. Ephesians says from the moment you first believe you are sealed with his holy spirit of promise.
As well, I now understand why a member of my family wants to get a Vasectomy. He is always talking about this. I even recall him stating that Rev. Angely says not to have Children in these last days.
By the way Vasectomies increase the risk of cancer and other diseases associated with men. Highly unlikely God would want this for a man.
Be careful about his ministry, but in the same tone be careful about any ministry. Trust Jesus. Trust yourself. Know who your savior is and where your heart is. God gave us a mind and eyes to see and know the truth.
While many tragedies and un-godly things have happened within this ministry, they happen in almost all ministries.
As for the ministry in Africa, he has been banned from several venues in many American cities and this is ONE reason he has taken his ministry to Africa. There are other reasons I am sure. He may have a compassion for the country.
As for healing Aids/Hiv. If it is happening it is for real. I do not doubt a healing. It is borderline blasphemy to doubt God's ability. God can heal within you at any moment. It doesn't matter who is preaching.
Gos Bless!!!

31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: 32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: 33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. 34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: 36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. 37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? 38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? 39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? 40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. 41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: 42 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: 43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. 44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? 45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. 46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal. MATTHEW 25:31-46
I guess that would include those Ministries that are right with The Lord and those that are not. I would love to talk about this and other Faith issues.
1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. 2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred. 3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. 4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. MATTHEW 4:1-4

Hi fellow Buckeyes----I a former member of both Humbard's church and Angely's. Should anyone think I'm making this up, remember when Northampton was still around? And Mayor Quirk was in charge of Cuyahoga Falls and the Coliseum still existed? Anyway, there are many reasons I don't think either of them behave or live like a Christian at all, much like Bush "talking to God" daily. I am not a Christian anymore (despite graduating from CVCA) and these two jackasses have a hell of a lot to do with why. Better that a Millstone......

Has Jesus or any of his minions ever healed an amputee? Is the Reverend up to the challenge?

The fear-mongering (do not mock god, go straight to hell, etc) is noted. That simple threat will silence some of his more credulous victims, and I'm sure it's worked in the past. Well done for that.

I mostly see people mocking a charlatan who preys (spelt correctly) on the desperately ill.

The shills who have posted here have good insight into how this business model works - nothing like extracting a few pennies from the gullible, the uneducated, or worse still, the dying.

Between Angley making carriers believe that they have been cured, to the Catholic Church encouraging people not to use condoms, and the health minister's beetroot home remedy, the disease will continue to flourish in South Africa.

More money in Angley's collection jar next time he's in the country I suppose.

To "Magneto Homeopathy and Holistic Treatment", I am sure I can verify the download, that's not hard. It's verifying the claim I have a problem with.

How are sales going? Made a buck from the dying yet?

Sies on you and Angley.

I am so sorry for those who do not believe in Miracles. you think just because science has not been able to find a cure for aids that means that the virus is bigger that Jesus Christ?, the Virus is bigger than god?. the lord who created Heavens, earth and you think he cannot heal AIDS. Before you criticize the man of god let me remind you that don't judge others lest you be judged also. it is only God who sits in the judgment sit. For those who worry about the moneys brought for offering in the Ministry, please read Malachi 3-10.You will find that the reason why most of you are poor is that you refuse to listen to the word of god Reverend Angely i am from Zimbabwe i recently gave you my prayer request and i have faith that the lord provides. keep up with the good work.
JESUS IS LORD

Aways believing for a Miracle.

I a PhD student in microbiology in one of the best Universities in Germany and I still believe that God heals AIDS/HIV and all the cancers you may want to load off off your body....just believe. Rev. Angely and his group are doing God`s work and idlers like jake are simply jealous of him. God is working mightily through this ministry and so let God have His way. If you dont believe in miracles, then you dont believe in God and if you dont believe in God, you are a fool and there is no need reacting to your stupidity. God provides for His servants and no government can afford to sponsor such ministries like for Rev. Angely. God alone provides for them, and He will continue to do so.

God healed me many years ago of AIDS/HIV and it has never again been detected. What Rev. Angely is doing is commendable and only Idiots who dont believe in God criticize this ministry. I am phD a student in microbiology and still believe man`s wisdom is completely stupidity infront of God`s. God is God and how can just a small virus not be healed completely. Rev. Angely only does his work of praying to people and God does the healing. Dont be stupid..open your eyes! I know you are jealous that God has blessed the ministry. For your information, greator wonders and miracles will still happen through that ministry to knock you down the more!

Reverend Ernest Angley has served the Lord for almost 70 years; he's almost 87 now, though you would never know it. God is using him much like He used the Apostle Paul in the Early Church days; signs, wonders & miracles follow His believers as Jesus proclaimed.

If you are sincere, seek the Lord while He may be found -- and pay no attention to scoffers. They will only believe once Jesus has taken all the saints out of this old wretched world by means of the Rapture. How will the scoffers delude themselves at that point?

Blessed Be The Name Of The Lord!

I prayed to recieve Christ because of this mans ministry many years ago. I dont know whether all the healing claims are accurate. But i have listened to many hours of his recorded sermons, and in my estimation he truly is a man of God, not perfect or infallible in doctrine , but sincere. Short of real proof to the contrary, i believe him to be just as authentic as Billy Graham or any other evangelist of our time. That being said i only have faith in Christ, all men are subject to failure and sin. Dont look for an excuse to not believe in all of the Holy Bible. We are all betting our lives on its truth or falseness. I for one will always believe it to be completely true. Forget about all tv preachers if necessary and give God a real chance in your life. Investigate it on your own and decide on your own. If there was ever anything to be open minded about its this.

In the end we delude ourselves. Can we really blame snake oil salesmen like Ernest Angkey if they can't resist taking advantage of a very profitable opportunity? He's not alone. The Roman Catholic Church has a very big operation at Lourdes.

I,Alease Brink Davis, want to clarify my beliefs about Rev.Angley.I believe that he is 100% sincere,a truly dedicated Man of God.I have serios disagreements with many of his teachings, but I do believe that some people are genuinely healed at his church. Not everyone who is "slain in the Spirit" is healed, but some are.I have been upset since reading a site called "Law vs Holiness",which claims that Rev.Angley is pro choice. If this is true,it is terribly wrong.A woman following his advice could make the worst mistake of her life, killing her own child. If this "pro choice" thing is not true, then I apologise to Mr.Angley for bringing it up.The man who hosts the Law vs holiness site is not against Angley,in fact he respects him.He just wants him to see how wrong this teaching truly is,how serious it is.

Rethabile, your comments are overly critical, unfounded, unrefined and uncalled for.Under no condition should u have called Angley stupid....... when he hasn't for once done you any harm.Do a proper research and come up with genuine findings on the HIV /Faith healing issue, including hearing from your God.

What will it take to stop this "earnest" purveyor of falsehoods!

I, for one, an American, would like to stop him NOW, as he does more damage than good, no matter where he goes...

If only he really cared about the people he purports to care about...

Rethabile,

he is not stupid - but he is quite simply, GREEDY.

I want to make something clear. i have asked if Rev.Angley actually teaches that abortion is not a sin. I came across a website, that says that he teqaches that. I have never personally heard him say that,I was just trying to find out the truth. I know he does teach that life begins at birth, not at conception. I do not want to slander this man of God. If he does not teach this, then I apologize for bringing it up. If, in fact,he does teach that abortion is not a sin, then he is tragically wrong.I wish I knew if he ever actually said this.
